A Whole New Approach

February 20, 2012 - Curdie Gardner
Yes, life's travels are still going on and I am still writing this blog! I am now

done with my tour of Ithaca, that's what I called this move, and am headed

back to Fonda for a whole new approach!

As many of you know, I was the market manager for Johnstown and

Gloversville Farmers Markets for 3 seasons. For the most part I really enjoyed

my work, mostly because I got to enjoy all elements of the weather. So now,

since the market is being handled by other people, I have decided to open one

in my hometown. Yes, that would be Fonda, with an additional day in

Fultonville. I really feel there is a need for a source of fresh food, entertainment, and just

down home fun in these small towns. I am a firm believer in giving back,

contributing to the full circle of life, not just taking. Right now I volunteer for

the Town of Mohawk Fire Department, serving food, but I know I'm capable of

giving more. I also volunteered for St. Marys' Hospital for a year and worked

at book sales and fundraisers for the Frothingham Library.

In my 25 yrs of customer service, I never felt satisfied with the type of job; I

wanted to do more for the community around me. I now feel this is the perfect

time for a new approach to life in Fonda. There is also a big push on for eating healthy, so a farmers' market would fit in

perfectly.

I have already had some good thoughts from some hard working folks that

want to participate in this wholesome venture, but of course I do need more.

I believe we will open in late May and go to the end of September, one

afternoon in each village, offering a range of homemade products from local

vendors. We'll be looking for homemade jams from an inspected kitchen, a

variety of veggies, honey, baked goods, fresh eggs every week, wines, fruit,

and more. Of course the markets will also need music. Not sure what we will

pay, but for anyone interested, let me know.

If you are a grower or some kind of a producer on a regular basis and enjoy

selling items to the public, please contact me.

The public meeting will possibly be the second week in March, but that will be

posted in the local newspapers.

Thanks in advance for your interest, Curdie Gardner
