Once more into the photo vault

Once again, I've been spending time working with some of the old glass-plate negatives from our archives here, and as always the experience is stimulating and frustrating at the same time. Most of these images are enigmas: No caption information survives, so the people, places and scenes they capture remain anonymous and elusive. Some of the images in this slideshow (see below) are shots I've posted previously, some are newly digitized. The second shot in the series is a detail from the first. The blurry gent in the bowler hat apparently had ants in his pants and couldn't hold still while the camera's shutter was open. The only information I have about the photo comes from the negative's crumbling paper wrapper. It says "April 1911" and is stamped with the name and address of the developer: "Avery Druggist, 54 W. Fulton St., Gloversville, N.Y." Given the date, I am sure all the people in the photo are long gone, but it's possible somebody among the living might recognize the face of an older relative.
